We are delighted to welcome Women’s Prize for Fiction short-listed authors Marcia Hutchinson (The Mercy Step) and Rozie Kelly (Kingfisher) to an evening celebrating two of the year’s most powerful debut novels. They will be discussing their West Yorkshire roots and writing journeys during an evening that will inspire and entertain book lovers.

Marcia Hutchinson’s The Mercy Step was published to critical acclaim in 2025 and is inspired by her childhood growing up in Manningham, Bradford. In addition to being shortlisted for the 2026 Women’s Prize for Fiction, Marcia also received the 2026 Nibbies (British Book Awards) Discover Award.

Rozie Kelly’s exceptional Kingfisher has been described as "taut, lyrical and emotionally intense … a mesmerising read” and “a tenderly written meditation on art, love and life that’s as much about the search for self as for connection.”
