Join us for The Little Bookshop’s next adult book group meeting
Thursday 13 November 7-8:00 pm
Tickets £7.00/£15.50 (includes a glass of fizz)
We are delighted that our November meeting is organised in partnership with Leeds City of Languages, which runs from 10 – 22 November 2025.
Readers are invited to embark on an epic fictional rail journey on The Great Trans-Siberian Express, travelling from Beijing to Moscow in 1899, across the vast, strange terrain of the Wastelands. The Cautious Traveller’s Guide to the Wastelands is an inventive novel that combines the best of fantasy and steampunk, featuring a cast of characters who aren’t what they seem - and a landscape full of terrible flora and fauna.
Author Sarah Brooks works in East Asian Studies at The University of Leeds, where she helps run The Leeds Centre for New Chinese Writing.
You can order your copy of The Cautious Traveller’s Guide to the Wastelands from The Little Bookshop when you book your place and receive a 15% discount (£9.99 RRP).
Praise for The Cautious Traveller’s Guide to the Wastelands:
“Exciting…Imagine a crossover between Murder on the Orient Express, Game of Thrones and Paradise Lost.” Sunday Times
“With its light handling of serious themes, this is a vivid and imaginative trip… ” Suzi Feay, The Guardian
“I was reminded of Stanislaw Lem’s science fiction novel Solaris, as the journey becomes one of the mind as well as one of a physical nature.” Mark Yon, SFF World
Booking is essential, online or at the bookshop.
